Give Thanks! God's Steadfast Love Endures Forever.

Weekly Meditation

O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. (Psalm 136:1)

I find it hard to believe that Thanksgiving is upon us already. As Charlie Brown's little sister, Sally, says, "I haven't even finished all my Halloween candy!" Yep, Thanksgiving has crept up on us again.

Will you take some time on Thursday to reflect on all you have to be thankful for? Will you go around the table, asking each person to share a blessing, knowing at least one of the kids will say something like, "I'll be thankful when we can eat!"? Perhaps you will even make a list, write it in a journal, and look back to see how it differs from last year when you wrote, "I am thankful the pandemic is almost over." Oops.

I am thankful for many things - the usual things: family, my church, friends, good health, and blessings upon blessings. Like many of us, I have so much for which to be thankful. The danger, however, and the fear, is in how quickly these blessings can be taken away.

I have mourned the loss of family members and dear friends, as well. Good health is only one accident or one diagnosis away from being taken away. The blessings upon blessings can disappear in an instant. Yes, even the church can be lost. Small churches like ours always stand precariously in our world today. There are no guarantees, except one.

The steadfast love of God endures forever.

The steadfast love of God endures forever.

Yes, the steadfast love of God endures forever!

And for that I will give thanks, this Thursday, and every day!

Have a happy Thanksgiving.
