But I will sing of your might; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been a fortress for me and a refuge in the day of my distress. (Psalm 59:16)
You likely have heard the saying,
There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who wake up and say, “Good morning, Lord!” and those who wake up and say, “Good Lord, it’s morning.”
While lately mornings have been a little more difficult for me, I have mostly tended toward that first kind of people. I wake up at about the same time each morning, without an alarm, and readily get on with my day.
However, morning is not the only time when we can sing of God’s steadfast love. You night owls, you know, the kind of folks who stay up past 9:30 pm, you can praise God’s steadfast love then. Even those who don’t experience that mid-afternoon lull (I ask you is there a better time in all the world for a nap?), you can sing your song at 2:00pm.
In other words, we can all sing of God’s steadfast love, morning, noon, or night. We can all find our own way to praise God and walk with God and follow God’s ways, no matter the time of day. And it starts, as I have said over and over, with remembering.
“For you have been a fortress for me and refuge in the day of my distress.”
Yes, we can sing of God’s steadfast love when we remember how God has been with us no matter what. God has stood by us in every challenge. God has walked beside us through every valley. God has given us the strength and courage to face any challenge. God is our fortress and refuge, giving us just what we need just when we needed it most.
Any time is the right time to offer God our praise and thanks. Morning, noon, or night, we can sing out our praise for God’s steadfast love because morning, noon, or night, God’s love is steadfast.
